Point of Retreat - Collen Hoover

Title : Point of Retreat
Author : Colleen Hoover
Series : Slammed
Publisher : CreateSpace
Published on February 25th, 2012
Review :

Short review :
totally unexpected, love the poems, Julia's stars made me cry, and it's okay to cry, even for men.

Full review :
Point of retreat is the second book of Slammed series. Unlike the first book in which Will was in dilemma whether to date Lake or not since they were teacher and student back then, this time they are officially together.

"This girl is the rest of my life." I just love Will. Point of Retreat is based on Will's POV so reading through his mind gives me a perfect example of what a man could possibly thinking about his girlfriend. Being in Will or Lake's positions will never be easy. Both of them had to lose their parents at such young ages, and like it or not, the first priorities aren't to reach their dreams anymore, but to replace their parents' positions to raise and protect their brothers.

Things go quite smoothly between Lake and Will. They're in love and supporting each other. Kel and Caulder are doing fine as well as Eddie and Gavin. But when they decided to go to the higher level of their relationship, Will's ex Vaughn showed up. Will Lake be just fine with that? and does Will still love her after what she had done to him in the past?
"If I left my head out of it and just followed my heart, I'd marry her today."
There are new characters, Sherry and Kiersten. They are mom and daughter who just moved in to Will's neighborhood. I love Kiersten truthfully. At first she was a bit annoying but she is so mature at her young age in comparison to Kel and Caulder, so I forgave her and started to like her instead. Not to mention that she's so brave for speaking out against those who bullied her.

"Sometimes things happen in life that you didn't plan for. All you can do now is suck it up and start mapping out a new plan" , here it comes from the thirteen years old girl, Kiersten.

Another quote that I love is from Will grandmother's. It's actually an advice, so you guys better follow it :
A guy can tell a girl he's in love with her until he's blue in the face. Words don't mean anything to a woman when her head's full of doubt. You have to show her."

Is that ring the bell for you guys? When you love someone, instead of just telling them how much you love them, you need to show, express, and make sure they know it.

Last but not least, let me share to you one of my favorite poems,,,

If I were a carpenter, I would build you a window to my soul.
But I would leave that window shut and locked,
so that every time you tried to look trough it,
all you would see is your own reflection.
You would see that my soul
is a reflection of you. . .

Origin (Lux #4) by Jennifer L.Armentrout

Title : Origin
Series : Lux Series
Author : Jennifer L.Armentrout
Publisher : Entangled Publishing
Published on : August 27th 2013

"I'll burn the world down to save her."
Short review :
I have no complaints. The story is so mind-blowing, jaw-dropping and freaking fantastic!

Full review :
(let me bring you to my own story first)
It's been a long time since the last time I wrote reviews on my blog. It feels like forever already! Nothing is more sad than can't read or buy books and write reviews afterwards. But back in few months ago, I had my first real job and it takes my full attention to adapt to my new working environment. I keep questioning myself, when is the right time to read again? It's as if I was lost in the dark hole of 'put your job first before your favorite guilty pleasure" which is reading. But then I realized, I was so stupid. There is no right time to read or do things you like, it's just now or never.

Just when I had this thought, one of my favorite author Jennifer L.Armentrout published the fourth book of Lux Series, Origin. I've waited this book like forever and it really worth the wait! The ending of Opal (3rd book) was totally unexpected. PS. Just ignore this review if you haven't read Opal. And Origin is the answer of my curiosity. I'm happy for Dawson since he got Beth back but things feel so unreal for Daemon and Katy.

Since Obsidian, I have known that Katy wasn't a weak girl. She definitely can kick some asses. Seeing her surrounded by Daedalus and locked in remote area, somehow I know that she will do everything just fine. My brave girl Katy is not helpless at all. There are so much more to reveal from Daedalus sides. And questions that I had in mind are answered in Origin. The story itself explained the meaning of the title. And it's totally unexpected.

Katy was asked to believe that Daedalus aren't the bad persons, that they only want to protect the rights and welfare of human from the aliens. Will Katy truly believe that?

Due to the dual point of view, we can know what both main characters were thinking, which makes me love Daemon even more. Daemon is just Daemon. I can't imagine him being someone else. He is arrogant, cocky, yet sweet, witty and romantic. As time goes by, his relationship with Katy gets stronger and stronger. The love that they have for each other is unconditional and enduring which is the sweetest thing on earth. They said two is better than one. And I guess it's right. They are perfect together.
"I promise you that this isn't going to be our future, Kitten. I will give that to you - a normal life. Her eyes glistened. I don't expect a normal life. I just expect a life with you."
Besides the fact that I love Jennifer L .Armentrout so much for always writing such great books, I love her for her fondness for watching zombie movies. Whoever loves watching zombie movies is my sister. Last year I found out that Jennifer was so into The Walking Dead just like me.So I feel more connected with her than ever. I absolutely excited and can't wait to read the next book! Kisses and hugs for Daemon and Katy! Hope you guys have a happy ending! <3

Opal (Lux #3) by Jennifer L.Armentrout

Title : Opal
Series : Lux series
Author : Jennifer L.Armentrout
Publisher : Entangled Teen
Published on December 11th 2012
Synopsis : Opal #3 (taken from Goodreads)
Review :

Short review :
Just give me a moment. I NEED TO BREATHE. Damn ending! Damn epic!

Full review :
When I read the first chapter, I really couldn't wait to see what would be happening in the end of Opal, so I peaked at the last page, and damn my heart isn't ready for this. I wasn't expecting this but show must go on. Like a rainbow after the rain, I believe there's always a good thing after the pain.

My very first wish is that Daemon and Katy can live happily ever after. But as much as I want it to happen, it ain't the right time to actualize it. Of course, things won't go easy like that because Opal isn't the end of Lux series. There are at least two books ahead to be published. So, Opal has to be more challenging, more tense, etc. And it really did. Each chapter is very intense I think I couldn't handle it. I have to put down the book at least every two chapters at once just to take a breath. Opal gives you so many surprises that will take your breath away and probably make you cry.

The story itself was packed with action, romance, mysteries, etc. It is well-written and witty as always. The romance came out so well tho. Although Katy is no longer a normal human like she used to be, but when it comes to Daemon, Katy is a little insecure. I would feel exactly the same if I were her. That's the risk to date the most handsome alien on earth. I swear I had butterflies in my stomach by reading Daemon's confession to Katy. My favorite alien has never failed to make me swoon. His sarcastic humor has always brought so much laughter and crack me up as well.
"I wanted you from the first moment I saw you - and before you get started, I know I had a bad way of showing it, but you know I wanted you. Only you."
Aside from the unwanted surprises, I really feel happy for Katy and Daemon. Like finally they are OFFICIALLY TOGETHER!!! *cheers* Their relationship is like tom & jerry. They tease each other, irritate each other, but can't live without each other.
"He...he kisses like he's dying of thirst, and I'm water."
Jennifer is my all time favorite author and it's an honor for me to read her book series. I would never feel bored to say that she is the best and she really knows what she is doing. Although I was a bit sad that the ending is totally a cliffhanger, but this time I would also give 5 star to Opal as what I had always given to her previous books.

Slammed #1 - Colleen Hoover

Title : Slammed #1
Author : Colleen Hoover
Series : Slammed Series
Publisher : Atria Books
Published on September 18th 2012
Synopsis :
Falling in love can feel like poetry. Or it can feel like a slam to the heart. Colleen Hoover’s romantic, emotion-packed debut novel unforgettably captures all the magic and confusion of first love, as two young people forge an unlikely bond before discovering that fate has other plans for them. Following the unexpected death of her father, eighteen-year-old Layken becomes the rock for both her mother and younger brother. She appears resilient and tenacious, but inside, she's losing hope. Then she meets her new neighbor Will, a handsome twenty-one-year-old whose mere presence leaves her flustered and whose passion for poetry slams thrills her. Not long after a heart-stopping first date during which each recognizes something profound and familiar in the other, they are slammed to the core when a shocking discovery brings their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together and the forces that tear them apart. Only through the poetry they share are they able to speak the truth that is in their hearts and imagine a future where love is cause for celebration, not regret.

Review :

After Layken's dad passed away, her mother decided leave Texas. Along with her nine years old brother Kel, they moved to Michigan. When they arrived at their new house, Kel already made friends with Caulder, their neighbor whom is the same age with Kel. While moving their things out to the house, Layken meets Caulder's brother Will. They instantly fell head over heels for one another. But it's doesn't last long, because apparently Will is Layken's teacher at her new school. There are many risks that it has, and who will be put first, second and third? Is it family, job or Layken?

I sort of have a love-hate relationship with Will. As a teacher and only brother to Caulder, he did a great job because it ain't easy to raise a kid while he is supposed to chase his dream. But for love problems, he sucks so bad. However, I'm forever loving guys who kiss foreheads instead of lips in a certain moment. So yeah, I forgive you, buddy.
"Whatever burden it was that she was carrying around, I wanted to carry it for her." - Will
Apart from the love between Layken and Will which by the way is complicated as hell, it's a beautiful story. I noticed that Will said 'That's not a good idea' more than once or twice. I tried not to count but even if I don't count it, I still feel the words come up once and again which is a bit disturbing. But again dude, I forgive you.

It's a heart touching story between Layken and her mother. I feel so connected with them and their stories. To stories that they've gone through since her dad passed away, I couldn't put into words how sad I am. Layken's mom is my favorite. Her words are very inspiring and just like all mothers will do to their daughters, she encouraged Layken, being her friend when she needs it, and taught her how to be strong and caring.

This book is so much more than just the love between a teacher and student. It's also about family, life and death. What I love more about this book is the poems. There is two or three poems that I skip in the beginning, but as soon as I read Layken's and Will's, I was mesmerized. The author doesn't only write a novel but poems as well. Those are all great poems and have deep meaning inside.
"Question everything. Your love, your religion, your passions. If you don't have questions, you'll never find answers."

Fifty Shades of Grey #1 by E.L.James

Title : Fifty Shades of Grey #1
Series : Fifty Shades
Author : E.L.James
Publisher : Vintage Books
Publication Date : April 2012
Synopsis : click me
Review :
Anastasia Steele is an innocent woman who has lack experience in relationship. Meanwhile Christian Grey is totally the opposite of her. They met up for the first time when Ana came to his office to interview him on behalf of her best friend, Kate who was sick and couldn't come. Christian then finds a way to meet Ana again and again. Both of them have feelings to one another. What Ana wants is pure relationship, but Christian offers her a contract to sign which it contains of BDSM (Bondage, Discipline, Sadism, Masochism)

Despite the BDSM, Christian Grey isn't that bad. What makes me curious is why he does that in the first place. I believe he has dark past that lead him to this kind of lifestyle. And I don't want to call Ana 'stupid' because she is not. From what I read, I could tell that she really loves Christian, therefore she is willing to sacrifice anything for him. She cares about him and wants to embrace her Fifty Shades. A normal woman who wants pleasure and money would probably run away after knowing his craziness, but somehow Ana dislike all presents that Christian gave to her. Mac, Blackberry, Ipad, you name it. She wants more beyond that. Something that doesn't involve money. It's Christian's past. She wants to know and learn everything about him.

About how bossy and what a control freak Christian Grey is, yes, I am totally agree. That guy is really a control freak. It's like when Ana doesn't feel like eating, yet he insisted her to eat no matter what. I could actually find the word 'eat' as much as I can find the word 'holy fuck or holy shit' in that book. (one of the reasons I give only 3 stars = too many repetition and redundant words). Well, it's clear that Grey has issues. But although the way he commanded Ana to eat sounds so wrong, somehow it's weirdly sound so right as well. I mean, how many couples do really care about whether their partners eat three meals a day or not?

Part that I hate the most (It's quite obvious I guess) is none other than the room of pain that Christian have in his mansion. And part that I enjoy the most is their emails. Sometimes there are things that are quite complicated to be told in face to face, but you can always be yourself when you are writing emails, or updating status, etc.

Christian Grey is very possessive and doesn't like sharing. Ha! I can't say whether I like it or not, but seeing how protective he is towards Ana, I'm just fine because it's clear that this man really loves Ana yet doesn't know about it. To be honest, I feel bad and pity for Grey to have a dreadful past that makes him become what he is in the present. That's why I can't put all the blames to him. He doesn't let Ana touch him, not even once. But I can see he really tries to make this relationship work. The book is getting better when Grey isn't that hard on himself anymore. The man isn't made from ice, though. He is a human being that has been tortured in the past.

Overall, this book is not that bad as I have heard so many times :) Put yourself in Grey's shoes, give him a break and maybe (maybe) you'll like him.

Pushing The Limits

Title : Pushing The Limits
Author : Katie Mcgarry
Publisher : Mira Ink
Publication Date : August 3rd,2012
Synopsis : Pushing The Limits
Review :

"Normal. She wanted normal and so did I."

Nothing is normal anymore for Echo and Noah. Not when Echo's brother Aires had died and her mom went crazy and tried to kill her. And Noah lost his parents and now wants to get custody of his two little brothers over their foster parents.

They are not the same person anymore. Accidents happened and poof~~ the world seems to be torn apart. Echo used to be a happy, cheerful, popular girl, until that one dreadful night she spent with her mother. It only takes one night, one moment, to make Noah wakes up in the hospital room and finds out that she has lost pieces of her memory. There are reddish scars on her hand, and how could a popular girl handle scars?
She quits. And that makes her peers at school began to whisper, laughed and even talked behind her back said she has gone crazy.

On the other hand, Noah doesn't do better. His life sucks and he knows it. But then he met Mrs.Collins, a social worker who unlike the others, seems to care with his life. Echo and Noah are on the same class. And now she is assigned to be his tutor. The girl rocks every man's life yet doesn't know it. Does Echo deserve a man like Noah? No, he thought she deserves better. But he can't take his eyes off her. Their lives are so complicated it hurts.

"The worst type of crying wasn't the kind everyone could see - the wailing on street corners, the tearing at clothes. No, the worst kind happened when your soul wept and no matter what you did, there was no way to comfort it."

I really like this book. It reminds me a bit of Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles, which is good. This book brings  sadness and huge changes to both main characters. There I watched them struggle for life, one tries to dig into her past to find the truth, and the other attempts to win a battle of custody of his brothers. I really love this couple. They are cute together and what is more important is they complete each other.

"There's nothing you can do wrong when just breathing makes everything right."

Last night I found myself crying, this book not only touches my heart but it really opens my mind. I made a mental note that if our boyfriend only ask for sex, then he is not interested with us but our bodies. If he loves you, then he will wait. He will wait until you are ready. And if your boyfriend or your friends can't handle you at your worse, then they don't deserve you at your best.

I highly recommend this book for any lover of Young Adult.

Onxy - Jennifer L.Armentrout

Title : Onxy
Series : Lux series
Author : Jennifer L.Armentrout
Publisher : Entangled Teen
Publication Date : August 14th,2012
Format : Paperback
ISBN : 978-1-62061-011-4
Synopsis : Onxy
Review :
"I still want to strangle you. But I'm insane. You're crazy. Maybe that's why. We just make crazy together."
This book is so great it hurts. I really tried to only read a few pages per day in the hope that I don't have to say goodbye to this book so soon, but I failed. Curiosity killed me. I can hardly put this book down. I don't know if it sounds weird or not, but when you love reading a particular book, you really don't mind whether it's a very thick book or not. Not that this book is thick, though.

I think I could never get enough of Daemon. He is a perfect figure that maybe every girls in the world want to have as a boyfie. I am totally into this book, seriously. It's more intense, more love-hate relationship between Kat and Daemon, more fights and struggle and more secrets revealed. In this book, you can't really tell which person tell lies and which one is telling the truth. I myself can only trust Daemon.
"Some things are best left...unknown, you know? People search for answers and they don't always like what they get. Sometimes the truth is worse than the lie."
Daemon's sarcasm never fails to entertain me. His humor is extremely sarcastic. He also never hid his dislike to anything or to anyone. He's very blunt and straight to the point telling people the truth and I found it hilarious. I can't stop laughing when he mentioned the newcomer's name in the wrong way on purpose.

Katy is my second favorite heroine beside Rose (Vampire Academy). Since the first book, she has shown her strong personality, she can't be easily taken down by anything. She can deal with troubles and never ran away. Many changes confused her, but she is a fast-learner. She might get scared most of the time but it didn't stop her.

While Katy still denies everything that she feels for Daemon, Daemon is the opposite of her. He blatantly expressed his love at her and even made a bet with her that she will fall in love with him before New Year's Day over. I also love Daemon for being so caring and protective of Kat. Whenever Kat has problems, he always be there for her and make sure that she's fine. No, no. I don't only love him, I worship him! HARD!

Jennifer has done a very good job and I really can't wait to read the third book, Opal. Her writing is the best.  It is always funny and very entertaining just like the first book and the other series that she had wrote. I bet that she is really a nice person in the real life as well. Wish someday I can meet and hug her and ask for autograph XD

This book is epic!!

Rating : Definitely 5 stars.
Recommended to : Everyone.

The Academy - Emmaline Andrews

Title : The Academy
Author : Emmaline Andrews
Publisher : Evangeline Anderson Books
Publication Date : August 2nd,2012
Synopsis : The Academy
Review :
I decided to read this after reading my friend's review and the synopsis itself. If you often watch Korean Drama, this novel must have reminded you of You are Beautiful, Hana Kimi or the one that quite famous nowadays, To The Beautiful You. Yes, those drama are about a girl who pretended to be a boy and attended a private boy's school. There she met a boy she likes then fall in love. Those stories are always interesting to watch. Thus, when I know this novel is kind of have the same story line, I can't wait to read it myself.

Kristina and Kristopher are twins. Kristopher is fond of music and Kristina likes to study. Their father forced Kristopher to attend The Academy soon, but he has his own plan for his future. Whatever he said to his father to let him decide his life by his own just get his father mad and annoyed. Meanwhile, Kristina offers to take his brother's place at The Academy.

I have a good imagination about this. Kristina cut her long and beautiful hair to the short one. She also wrapped her breast and wear his brother's shirt. The Academy itself has strict rules and forbid students to stay up late at night. Not to mention they all have to share a public bathroom. Can you imagine that? lol. Kristina is in a big trouble! I found myself laughed at the moment Kris has to share a room with her roommate, North. North is quite passive and get annoyed easily by her presence. But as time goes by, North found himself thinking, how could Kris has that beautiful face? Although Kris is good at fencing, but somehow North has the urge to protect her from anything. You know which part is the best? It's when North questioned his sexual orientation, whether he is still straight or not. lol.

I enjoyed reading this book pretty much. Although the story line is predictable, but it isn't boring.

Oliver Twist - Charles Dickens

Title : Oliver Twist
Author : Charles Dickens
Publisher : Sterling
Publication Date : March 28th 2006
ISBN : 978-1-4027-2665-1
Synopsis : Oliver Twist
Review :

"The thing to do is to run off and make my fortune."

It's a pleasure to meet you, too. My name is Oliver Twist. I've come to London to make my fortune!"

Justru sebaliknya, Oliver berperang melawan nasibnya. Oliver bocah yang jujur dan mudah dicintai. Karena kepolosannya, orang sering memanfaatkannya, tapi good things happen to good people, to those who wait, and Oliver is one of them :)

Great book!

Fearless - Brigid Kemmerer

Title : Fearless
Series : Elemental #1.5
Author : Brigid Kemmerer
Publisher : K Teen (Kenshington)
Publication Date : July 31st 2012
Format : ebook
ISBN : 9780758285522
Synopsis : Fearless
Review :
Fearless is a short novella of Elemental series. It's about Hunter. If you have read the first book, then you must have known Hunter and his hidden power. But if you haven't read it yet, then it's not a problem if you want to start reading Fearless first.

For me who have read Storm first, I get to know that Hunter is a new guy in the town. He involved with love triangle with Becca and Chris. Hunter is a good guy but not that good compare to Chris. I can tell that Hunter was a bit confused in making decision, whether to believe people he just met or listening to his father's command.

However, in Fearless, you can see Hunter in a completely different way. Readers will be able to see his motivation behind the action that he took in Storm. And now I know that he was the type of guy that won't kick someone's ass unless it's necessary. Although it's a quick read, the story is pretty intense and we get to know a girl Hunter likes before Becca :)

I think I just couldn't get enough of Elemental series . Awesome!

Art Geeks and Prom Queens - Alyson Noel

Title : Art Geeks and Prom Queens
Author : Alyson Noel
Publisher : St.Martin's Press
Publication Date : September 1st 2005
Format : Paperback, 240pages
Synopsis : click here
Review :
You Reap What You Sow

Rio Jones is a new kid from New York. She's got her mother's look and height. Basically, she is a gorgeous girl. But somehow she doesn't aware of  it. She starts to hang out with Jas and Mason and for some reasons, she got detention and her mother told her not to hang out with them anymore. Then she meets Kristi, a popular girl who seems to have lots of friends. Kristi told her that in order to be one of her friends, Rio needs to follow some rules, which most of it are ridiculous. It was a new thing for Rio. She used to have two best friends and they did not seem to have any rules to follow.

I enjoyed reading this, although at some points I found myself shaking my head in disbelief. Like seriously? *Rolling eyes* I am not fond of Rio. She is very easily influenced by anything and she acts like she's living in a fairy tale, which a bit annoying. I wish she finds the courage to say 'No' but no, she just goes with Kristi's plans and rules.

Lessons to be learned :
1. Just be yourself. Don't pretend smoking if you just want to look cool. Trust me, you will look ridiculous by then. Especially when you ended coughing, etc. Your friends won't tell you that you are such a cool person, but instead they will call you a liar for lying that you can smoke. So, just be yourself.
2. Don't think too much about how people will react towards you. Instead put yourself first.
3. Don't get overconfident. It will just do more harm than good.
4. Don't pretend to be someone else or like things that you actually hate just because you are desperately want to join the popular groups. Back to point no.1, just be yourself.
5. Don't befriend with someone who think that you eating your entire lunch is gross.
6. When someone you know give you a cocaine, tell yourself that (s)he isn't your friends and say 'No'.
7. Don't play with someone's heart because it's not a toy.

"Zane seems really nice?"
"Really? You think so?"
"Well, yeah."
"Well, that's nice. 'Cause we broke up.'

"I guess I kind of blew that, huh?"
"You didn't know."
"Well, Monique seemed really nice. Or did you break up, too?
"No, we didn't break up, we're still together." pg.64

When I was reading this, I was like,'Geez, what the hell is wrong with Rio?? Is she out of her mind?
That's not kind of a joke at all. I don't know why she said that in the first place. *sigh* She tries to be funny but it turned out so bitter and odd.

When she befriend with Kristi and her groups, she admits that everyone starts to know her and call her name. But is it really worth it? Like when you make over yourself thoroughly, do you really want it? I mean, yes, maybe people will start admire you but what about yourself? Do you like it? Do you make it for yourself or just to please people? For me, my opinion is more about important than others. Their opinions are important as well, but when you look at yourself in the mirror and you find it charming while your friends tell the opposite, don't change any of it. People have a different style and point of view. You can follow them, but it doesn't mean that you have to follow their words all the time. You know, you have to love yourself first before someone else can love you.

When I finally get that this book involves bullying, I can't help but sigh. I'm quite aware that bullying happens a lot at school where jocks, popular crowds try to gain power and control over another students. When they ask you to join their groups but you resist, you will just be their new enemy. If you are not a tough person, they will see you as easy target and try to attack and humiliate you. If you can't defend yourself better, then you will just be a particular victim that get bullied repeatedly over time. I learned this from the book I read for my thesis, Nineteen Minutes.

The only way to prevent and stop it is to talk openly about it. Find someone you trust to share this thing. You can talk to your parents about it. Don't ever think that they don't care. Children are their pearls, they will listen and help you get through your problems.

Nineteen Minutes - Jodi Picoult

Nineteen MinutesNineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult

Review :

Jodi Picoult, thank you for writing such a good book for you readers. I'm not a loyal one, but i'm a fan now :)

I chose this topic for my thesis, bullying.

Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior manifested by the use of force or coercion to affect others, particularly when the behavior is habitual and involves an imbalance power. It can include verbal harassment, physical assault, or may be directed repeatedly over time towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexuality or ability. source : wikipedia

Nineteen Minutes is a story that portrayed a young boy, Peter Houghton who had been bullied for almost every day in his life. Since he began his first day of kindergarten, he had been fooled around by random boys who shared the same bus with him. Id did not stop there but keep on happening until he was in senior high school and finally he decided to end it in his own way.

"Everyone's saying I ruined their lives, but no one seemed to care when my life was the one being ruined." pg191

As a matter of fact, it is not only Peter who got bullied, but there were other students that got bullied as well. But none of them were getting very bad treatment like Peter did. Josie was used to be his friend, but then she decided to join the popular group at school and abandoned Peter.

"Why do you think they targeted you?"
"I don't know. They're like a pack. They have to make someone else feel like shit in order to feel good about themselves."

"Where do you want me to start," Peter answered, bitter. "In nursery school, when the teacher would bring out snacks, and one of them would pull out my chair so I'd fall down and everyone else would crack up? Or in second grade, when they held my head down in the toilet and they flushed it over and over, just because they knew they could? Or that time they beat me up on my way home from school and I needed stitches?" pg.191

Peter was a natural target for bullies and his life was all downhill from the first day of kindergarten when his Superman lunch box was thrown out of the school bus window onto the highway. As time passed and he got older, the same group of bullies had been slamming him into lockers, kicking him, punching him, verbally abusing him and intimidating him for as long as he could remember.

"You are the thing that used to be normal, but that may be so long ago, you can't even remember what it was like."pg195

"Did you ever tell anyone about what was going on? Parents? Teachers?"
"No one gives a crap," Peter said. "They will tell you to ignore it. They say they'll be watching out to make sure it doesn't happen, but they never watch." pg192

When the bullying took place, Peter had asked helped and reported the bullying to his parents and his teachers at school. Sadly, teachers and parents told him not take it seriously and instead told him that he needed to stick up for himself, that he has to find a way to stop the bullying happened by his own self. He was just a kid by then. Thus, when his father taught him how to use rifle, he gladly learned how to shoot. In his mind, those guns could help him solve his problem.

"I don't think I can go to your house on Friday." "How come?" "Because my mom said she'll punish me if I lose my lunch box again." "That's not fair,'Josie said. Peter shrugged. "Nothing is." pg113

Q : Why are you so interested in this topic? And what do you want to deliver to people when they read your thesis?
A : I am so interested in this topic because i'm quite aware that bullying happens in the real life as well.I want to let them know bullying is a serious problem that needs to be taken seriously. I want to let them know that bullying is wrong and it is not a funny thing to do at all. Because bullying means that we kill someone's right to feel safe and happy in world.

Just like Jodi Picoult wants to deliver her messages through writing to her readers, I myself want to deliver about the effects of bullying to my readers. That the effects of bullying may lead to long-term health and emotional effects. In this case, Peter Houghton had suffered through relentless bullying for twelve long years resulting in a serious psychological trauma. His syndrome was called Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD. PTSD is a severe anxiety disorder that can develop after exposure to any event that results in psychological
trauma.

Q : How many types of bullying that you found in this novel?
A : I found four,Sir. There are physical bullying, verbal bullying, cyber bullying and sexual bullying.

Q : Explain each of it!
A : Physical bullying is a form of bullying that occurs when someone is physically harmed through being bitten, slapped, punched, kicked or any other physical attacks. In this case, Peter H had been slammed into a locker and a wall for so many times that he could remember.

Verbal Bullying occurs when someone uses language to gain power over his or her victim. In this case, the popular kid humiliated Peter by saying that he was a freak, a homo and many other name-calling.

Cyber bullying includes sending a rude, vulgar, mean, threatening messages or images, posting sensitive or negative information about another person. The popular group used an online media and instant messages to intimidate him by saying that he was a loser, fag, etc.

Sexual bullying is related to a person's appearance, body parts or sexual orientation. One of the jocks, Matt yanked Peter's pants down showing his genital in front of many students at the cafeteria. Peter was carrying a milk at that time and it spilled out through his genital, they made a joke about that by saying he was having a premature ejaculation.

Q : So, what action did he take to stop the bullying?
A : Well, actually he had tried many things to stop the bullying happened. He had reported it to teachers but they did not take his words seriously because they thought that it was just part of growing up. He had also told his parents, but instead of getting support, they told him to find a way to stop it by himself otherwise he would be punished. So, Peter Houghton finally decided to end the bullying by his own self. He took a violent and extreme action by carrying four guns at school, and used two of them to shot nineteen people, resulting ten were dead and nine were wounded. As the result, he was convicted with eight counts of first degree murder and two counts of manslaughter and sentenced to life in prison. And one month after the conviction, he decided to end his life by suffocating himself with a soak.

The questions above were questions that my examiners asked me yesterday when I was having my green table examination. I answered them confidently like I was telling a story or something like that. To be honest, I'm not a good storyteller. I'm better in writing than speaking. But I don't want to go into a war without any weapons. So, I studied, reading my post-it that I pasted all over my laptop and practice everyday. Thank God I did not mess up anything. Instead my examiners seemed to enjoy the time we had and even asked for more details about Peter showing that they were interested in this topic. As the result I got an A. Thank God. Thank you again, Jodi.

The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window

Title : The Boy Who Sneaks in My Bedroom Window
Author : Kirsty Moseley
Publication Date : April 30th 2012
Publisher : Createspace
Synopsis : click here
Review :
This book is so sweet. Liam is so sweet. Everything about this book is so sweet except Amber's father. Things were already getting tense in the first chapter. Amber's father was a bad and abusive father and even a worse husband. He was a bad tempered person and always wanted to rule his family. If things did not go as what he said, he would start to slap and kick his children and even his wife.

Amber lived in fear. She was too scared to do anything when his father was around. One day his father was trying to rape her but Jack and Liam, Jack's best friend who lived next to their house came and beat him up. Amber was fragile and couldn't bear to be touched. She was always had a terrible nightmare and she woke up screaming every day. Neither Jack nor his mother could calm her down. But surprisingly, Liam could. Liam did not call her with Amber. But instead he called her Angel. You'll be surprised when you know why :) Liam, the sweetest guy ever, tapped on her bedroom window and asked if he could get in. He She was eight and Liam was ten. At such a young age, Liam had managed to be a good boy for Amber. He let her hugged him to sleep and it became such a ritual ever since.

I know it sounds wrong, but they never did anything bad actually. Liam was like a pain in the butt for Amber. He was always teasing her, eating her cereal, and always showing off. But other than that, Liam was such a gentleman for her. Well, he was a bit possessive but I could accept that. hahaha. I really love this guy. And I have a thousand reasons to tell why I love him. He was a very good friend for Jack, he took care of Amber and never took her for granted. Not to mention he was always listening to Amber and put her first above all else. That was very sweet of him. Seriously, where can I find someone like him?

"Why do you keep doing that?" I asked.
"Doing what?" he asked
"Every time I start to fall, you make yourself fall backwards so I land on top of you. You're going to hurt yourself.
He shrugged. "Rather me than you."

I love how he was so proud of Amber as his girlfriend and always told his friends, "I have a girlfriend' etc. Normally, if a guy talks much about his girlfriend to his friends, it means that he loved her so much and want his friends to know and be happy for them too.

"You know what, you wouldn't stand a chance. My girl is incredibly beautiful, both inside and out."

I'm afraid if I will spill everything lol. It is so hard for me not to say how good he was as a person and a boyfriend. He did not rush anything but he was willing to wait for her. What a gentleman. Have I said that before? :D

"You're worried about sex," he stated.
"I can wait as long as you want. I really am crazy about you, it's not about sex."
"What if I said I didn't believe in having sex before marriage?" I asked, testing him.
"Then I'd say how about we get married as soon as you're old enough. Eighteen is the legal age, right? he replied, winking at me.

"Liam, I don't want to ruin your future," I whispered. He smiled and kissed me lightly. "Angel, you're my future."

PS : Liam James is the best male character of Young Adult that I'd ever read. I'm not exaggerating, tho.

Rating : 5/5 I'd give Liam score 10 out of 10.

Until I Die By Amy Plum

Title : Until I Die (Revenants #2)
Series : Revenants series
Author : Amy Plum
Publication Date : May 8th 2012
Publisher : HarperCollins Publisher
Synopsis : Until I Die
Review :
I've finished reading this two or three weeks ago but since I was so busy with my thesis thing then I decided not to write the review first. Hope I don't miss anything :D
Okay, so this is the second book of Revenant series. The first one is Die For Me. You can read the review here : Die For Me Amy Plum was so good in making a title, wasn't she? Die For Me, Until I Die. I mean, who wants do 'die for you' in this sophisticated era? People are too busy thinking of themselves and even lovers might want to think more and more again if they have to die for their couples. But back to the title, I love the title of the first book so much. You know, it was kind of romantic and intimate. It might sound cliche, but it was okay. I think guys who have lived for a hundred of years or even a century were all old school and possessive, just like Vincent or Edward Cullen in Twilight Saga. I think they even share the same foolishness by trying to protect their girlfriends without telling them how to do it.
"Kate, I admit that we aren't in the easiest of situations. But are you always this. . . complicated?"I opened my mouth to say something, but Vincent shook his head, grinning. "Actually, don't answer that. Of course you are. I wouldn't be so totally into you if you weren't."
In the previous book, Kate had made Vincent to promise her that he won't die no matter what happen. And now, he was trying very hard to keep that promise although in the process of his effort, he looked awful and made Kate get worried. At first thing was all fine, but since Violette and Arthur came and replaced Charlotte and his brother's place, things get tensed. Arthur looked uncomfortable with Kate's presence. Violette dislike Kate's sister and vice versa. Not to mention Vincent was very busy with his jobs that he hid very well from Kate.

Anyway, I love how Vincent shows his love and affection towards Kate. It was so sweet and sometimes I found myself envy with that couple. Even though Vincent was busy with his secret job, but he always managed to find time for Kate. If he couldn't meet Kate, then he would ask his best friend Jules, who was a revenant as well to give her a ride to school or just accompany her.

There's something about Jules that I like more than Vincent. I expect to see love triangle but I haven't seen it yet in this novel. The ending was so unpredictable and I'm so worried yet excited about what will happen next.

Die For Me by Amy Plum

Title : Die For Me
Series : Revenants #1
Author : Amy Plum
Publication Date : May 10th 2011
Publisher : HarperTeen
Synopsis : Die For Me
Review :

This gorgeous cover succeed to make me want to read it. I became more interested when I read the synopsis. So, I start to read it, then what did I get? A full of surprise. This book is amazing. Why? Because the story is incredible fresh. it's not about vampire, angel or any kind of that. But it's about Revenants. #TheUndead.

It's quite complicated at first, but it's not hard to catch up. They are not zombie, they are as handsome and gorgeous as models, they eat any edible foods that we can think of, and they are not ghost or spirit but Revenants. They live by saving other people's lives. They sacrifice themselves in order to save the life of some people who lost hope or willing to die. But they are not truly dead. I mean they are dead after saving people's lives but it's not dead dead. it's not permanent.

Their bodies are dead, but their spirit keeps alive as a volant. However, their bodies only remains dead for three days, so when their bodies lay down unconscious, they live as a volant.

Kate and her sister Georgina lost their parents in car accident. Their lives never been easy eversince. Then they decided to make a new start at Paris where their grandparents live. Kate never felt more sad and miserable then now, but it soon vanished after she met Vincent, a gorgeous man who sit in front of her at the cafe where she loves to kill time by reading books at there.

Their first meeting grows a curiosity , then they "accidentally" met at the museum and some places. Vincent has many friends who have become part of his life. they are Jules, Ambrose, Carles and Charlotte and many more. They are not normal as other human, they are revenants.

Well they are the good revenants. Like humankind, they are good and bad ones. The good ones live by saving people's live, the bad ones live by killing people.

Later Kate and Vincent were  dating. And they were really sweet^^ But what if Kate knows about the history of Vincent's life? Will she still want to see him? Can she bear all the facts that after her parents died ,her life will not ever be the same anymore?

Five stars because :
1. The gorgeous cover.
2. The well-written story.
3. The sweet relationship between Vincent and Kate.
4. The awesome family that Vincent have, and they are very close to each other, make me envy >.<
5. The last is , I'm looking forward to read the 2nd book of this Revenants series.(it's a good sign that this book is so nice and fresh)

Note : I re-post this from my goodreads. I read this on July, 2011, almost a year now :)
The next post will be the review of the second book which is Until I Die.
When I read this last year, I thought that they fell in love too fast and easy that I'm afraid they have no strong relationship and will break up so fast as well. But of course it did not happen since it wasn't real. However, in the second book, I love Vincent more. He was such a gentleman, more caring now, and a perfect guy for Kate.

Title : Tempting The Best Man
Author : J.Lynn (Jennifer L.Armentrout)
Publication Date : April 23th 2012
Publisher : Entagled Publishing
Synopsis : Tempting The Best Man
Review :
I loveeeee this book so muchhh. This book is written by my fav author Jennifer L.Armentrout under her peny name, J.Lynn. I love her writing and I've known that this book is gonna be a good book for sure.  Maddie had a crush on her brother's best friend, Chase, since like forever. Although he never said anything about his feeling which drive her crazy, but he always took a good care of her. That is what makes Maddie confused, whether he sees her as a sister or a woman. MySpace

Maddie's brother is getting married. All relatives have gathered, including Gamble brothers. Everyone knew that Maddie was madly in love with Chase. You know, Chase is one of those smokin' hot guys in Gamble brothers. He is handsome, smart, sweet, and charming. I kinda like a guy like Chase. He is kind of guy that sometimes I want to slap him in the face but I eventually will hug and pat him on the back. So, when they actually had to stuck at one room together for a few days, I want to laugh really hard :D :D MySpace They were really sweet, indeed.  MySpace

Tempting The Best Man is really nice and I just want to say that I want more!! I need more!!! XD
At first I thought it is a serialized book, but looks like I'm wrong yes? T-T I still hope J.Lynn will write it to series though. You know, Chase brother,Chad is cocky, arrogant, and freakin hawt!MySpace It wouldn't be hurt if J.Lynn writes his own story. Please! :)

Storm (Elemental #1) - Brigid Kemmerer

Title : Storm
Series : Elemental #1
Author : Brigid Kemmerer
Publication Date : April 24th 2012
Publisher : Kensington
Synopsis : Storm (Elemental #1)
Review :
Merrick brothers live and stand by their own feet. They have no one but brothers. Michael is the eldest, Nick and Gabriel are twins, and Chris is the youngest brother. One day Chris getting beaten up by bunch of kids behind the school. Her classmate, Becca passed by and couldn't help but stop her car and threatened to call police. At first she just want to help, but then it gets complicated. She gets involved with Merrick brothers more than she wanted. *smirk*

Merrick Brothers are smokin' hot and they are not ordinary. They are Elementals. Each of them has powers. Fire, Water, Air, and Earth. People in town thought they were very dangerous and kids at school despised them. Anyway, there's a new kid in town named Hunter. He's mysterious, intriguing, and he seems to like Becca so much.

At first I'm not quite sure which I like most, Chris or Hunter. They both seem so nice to Becca. But then I've settled on Chris. I like his honesty, his sensitivity and I love his courage to protect Becca whenever she gets humiliated by boys at school. It's not like Hunter doesn't do the same, it's just that he wasn't always there when she needed him. I still like Hunter, tho. He seems so sincere at all.

I like this series pretty much. Storm isn't just about powers, boys and girls dating, etc. It is also how Becca struggled to defend herself and how she could be so strong and patient to face horrible things that had happened in her life. She's such a brave person and now she's one of my favorite heroine :) I also love the cover that I'm free to have wild imagination  MySpaceMySpace
