Losing Hope - Colleen Hoover

Judul : Losing Hope (Segenap Daya)
Penulis : Colleen Hoover
Series : Losing Hope
Penerbit : Gramedia Pustaka Utama
Tebal & Tahun Terbit : 408hal, Februari 2015
Sinopsis : Losing Hope - Segenap Daya
Review :
Walaupun begitu, saya tetap membacanya, to recall the memories, I said.

Intinya saya tetap suka. Saya jadi tahu pikirannya Holder. Karena saya wanita, bisa membaca isi hati dan pikiran laki - laki itu ada bagusnya juga. Well, tak gampang menjadi Holder.

The choice is yours :)

To All the Boys I've Loved Before #1 - Jenny Han

Title : To All the Boys I've Loved Before

Series : To All boys I've Loved Before
Author : Jenny Han
Date of Publication : April 15th 2014
Synopsis : To All the Boys I've Loved Before
Review :
"When I write, I hold nothing back. I write like he'll never read it. Because he never will. Every secret thought, every careful observation, everything I've saved up inside me, I put it all in the letter. When I'm done, I seal it, I address it, and then I put it in my teal hatbox."
If love is like a possession, maybe my letters are like my exorcisms. My letters set me free. Or at least they're supposed to.

Lara Jean wrote 5 love letters that she meant to keep it for herself. When she writes it, it means she doesn't in love anymore. She wrote and addressed it, but never meant to send it out. However, one day the boy she once loved was holding the letter and asked if it was from her. The letters have been sent out unintentionally. Lara Jean finds herself confronted with the boys from the past, namely Peter, the popular guy in school and Josh, her neighbor and her sister's ex-boyfriend as well.

She still has feelings for Josh and after he finds out, she needs to find a good cover to save her from embarrassment. To make his ex-girlfriend jealous, Peter offers a fake contract. But as the time goes by, they might have taken it too personally.

Honestly, I think at some point Lara Jean is still immature. But if we go through her life and put ourselves in her shoes, then we might realize she has tried her best at her young age. Growing up without her mother means she needs to figure out everything by her own self. Not to mention she has to take care of her little sister Kitty since Margot the oldest one has left home to study aboard. She has no confidence in what she was doing, but the girl was trying and learning. That's more important for me.

"This is our life; there's no use is asking what if. No one could ever give you the answers."
"Love is scary: it changes; it can go away. That's part of the risk. I don't want to be scared anymore. I want to be brave."

Kitty and Lara Jean always quarrel a lot in the house. If I could relate it to myself, they were just exactly like me and my sister. We always have different opinions and don't get along so well. Sometimes she can be so annoying and we would stop talking for few days or even months. [I don't know if it happens with you and your sisters too]. We may be argue and fight a lot, but I love her with all my heart. When she was sick, I was worried like an old mom. I even worried about her love life eventhough I'm the youngest in the house and I know she can do just fine.

This story follows Lara Jean as she struggles with her relationship with her sisters, her feelings toward her fake boyfriend Peter Kavinsky, and Josh, the boy her sister used to date. My favorite character is Peter. Although he is so full of himself, but he is so adorable. And Peter brings more joy and laughter to Lara Jean's family.

To me, this book is fresh and sweet.  I had the urge to finish this book as soon as possible but since I had to work so it took me a week to finish it. I enjoyed Jenny Han's writing. The fact that I couldn't even finish her previous work The Summer I turned Pretty made me skeptical to read this one. But since the cover is pretty and the synopsis is quite convincing, I knew I should give it a try. Besides, I love reading every single love letters that she wrote.

"Actually, you're really a lot like my granny." Peter says,"You hate cussing. You like to bake. You stay at home on Friday nights. Wow, I'm dating my granny."

Wicked (A Wicked Saga #1) - Jennifer L.Armentrout

Title : Wicked
Series : A Wicked Saga
Author : Jennifer L.Armentrout
Date of Publication : December 8th 2014
Synopsis : Wicked #1
Review :

"We're both here. That's all that matters, and I can't promise that I'm not going anywhere, but I'm going to try damn hard not to. That is one thing I'm going to tell you to trust."

Ivy is an Order. Each member was marked with a tattoo symbolized that they belonged to the Order. The tattoo itself symbolized freedom, live without fear. Because as a matter of fact, being an Order wasn't an easy task. The job is to send all fae back to the Otherworld by stabbing irons right in the center of their chests. It actually didn't kill them. Separating their heads from their bodies ended them for real.

Ivy lost her parents and boyfriend three years ago. Since then she lived alone with a brownie - similar to a pixie. She called it Tink, since it cooked so well for Ivy, she let it live with her. She also got a best friend, an Order as well named Val. When they were gathered for meeting, part of her was scared that she won't be able to meet people she cared anymore, including Val. Ivy is a strong girl, her past had forced her to be one. She is practically doing all things all by herself. Killing fae? Easy peasy. Killing an ancient who tried to shot her with a gun? Go run like hell!

Later, she was teamed up with her new partner, Ren. Well, JLA is known for always creating strong characters. Mostly I like every male lead that JLA created. But Ren hasn't given me 'the spark' yet. I like Ivy's toughness better than his ;___; But he was quite charming, though. What I love from him is that he is very straight-forward about his feeling towards Ivy and all his words provided a very calming influence over her.

"Sweetness, you can't hold your life back on a bunch of what ifs. Who the hell knows what could happen? Either one of us could walk out of this house and get struck by lightning, or both of us could live until we're ninety. Tomorrow we could die or we could come back here. We don't know."
"But we're both here right now and that's all that matters. The right now."

For I can say this is not the best book of JLA, I know she can do better. I kind of having high expectation for this book but unfortunately it was not 'that good'. The plot twist was predictable, and the love interest was not at its best. But I still enjoyed reading it, kinda hoping this book will have love triangle *grin* #still hoping, though #fingerscrossed.

Every Last Breath (The Dark Elements #3) - Jennifer L Armentrout

Title : Every Last Breath
Author : Jennifer L.Armentrout
Publisher : Harlequin Teen
Date of Publication : July 28th 2015
Synopsis : Every Last Breath
Review :

"Don't apologize," he was quick to say. "Don't ever apologize to me. I don't regret anything that happened between us. Not a moment."

So if the last two books were telling how demons and wardens were old enemies, this time they teamed up against the public enemy no 1, The Lilin. Lilin has killed many souls, including Layla's best friend's, not only killed them, but consumed their souls so it could easily changing its face to any of the souls that he has taken cruelly. Layla couldn't just stand there and do nothing while Lilin won't stop its moves until it could free their mother, Lilith.

On the process, Zayne almost get killed when he was 'too close' with Layla, and she won't allow it to happen again. She has loved him since she was just a kid. He was everything that she could think about when it comes to a man. But destiny has brought Roth to Layla's life. This time Layla has to choose between the love of her life Zayn or Roth, the Crown Prince of Hell that made her couldn't sleep all night.

"I don't think you understand what it means a demon falls in love, Layla. It doesn't go away. It doesn't fade, even if we want it to. We love until death. That's not just something we say. We love and we love once and it's forever. No matter what. And that's a bit twisted if you think about it, but luckily you feel the same way, so this isn't awkward. You feel me?"
There is no surprise that I'm on Roth's team. The more sarcastic he is, the more love I have for him. It's not just because he has that boyfriend material, but he is someone that will go through Hell to be with Layla, and he has proved it. So both of them are perfect for each other. Let's not mess it up :D

"I'm pissed off because I love you, Layla, and the idea of losing you fucking terrifies me!" "
And I wasn't going to chance losing you! Because I love you, you annoying, self-important and overcontrolling--"

I like pretty much all the characters except for Lilin, of course. Cayman is a very funny guy but loyal to Roth, Stacey is a strong girl and such a best friend to Layla, and Bambi, I'm going to miss Bambi so muchhhh. Later you will find out what Bambi actually is. <3

This is a trilogy finale and I am so sad this book has come to an end. It was very enjoyable and quick reading. And I found myself still awake in the middle of the night reading the book just to kill my curiosity on how the story would end. It thrills me, intrigues me and freaks the hell outta me ;__;
I couldn't say i'm a fan of the cover but who cares? I love this book enough that even bad cover won't matter. I'm quite surprised when I read reviews on Goodreads and many reviewers were disappointed by its story. Pros and cons are inevitable, of course. But JLA is my forever favorite author, and whatever she writes has always turned out very good to me. Je vous aime, Jen!

"It's him. It's always been him."

Take A Chance (Chance #1) - Abbi Glines

Title : Take A Chance
Series : Chance Series, part of Rosemary Beach series
Author : Abbi Glines
Published on February 25th, 2014
Synopsis :
Review :

"She had needed me. No one had ever needed me. It had made me weak."

Grant has always been my favorite out of Rush and Woods. There's something about him that I eager to know more. That's why I was so happy when I knew Abbi wrote him his own story. My friends had reminded me that Grant wasn't as good as I had thought. But I can't help it and kept reading.

"I'm not a bad guy. Deep down you know that. I just made a very bad decision."

From his side story, I know that Grant has commitment issues. Okay I get that. Everyone is afraid of losing somebody, some even afraid to settle down. But as much as I tell myself that it was okay, yet at some point I won't deny the fact that Grant could be a jerk sometimes. I know that every man has physical needs but even Rush knew when to stop seeing one when he has fallen for Blaire. So why couldn’t Grant? He likes Harlow too much to hurt her but he keeps doing it without even trying to. Now I doubt myself if I could ever see Grant the same way as before. Everyone has reason for every action that they had taken, but Grant's is unacceptable. However, mistakes are made to be learned. I really hope Grant won't mess up again in the second book.

“It would be the hardest thing I’d ever have to face. Losing her would take my soul. But I can’t not love her for fear of losing her. What kind of life is that?  I wouldn’t know how amazing it feels to wake up with her in my arms. I wouldn’t get to enjoy watching her laugh and play with Nate. It’s worth it. Letting something like that stop you is letting fear control you. Don’t do that to yourself. Every moment I get with Blaire and Nate makes a life without them seem shallow and lonely.” - Rush

This story is about Grant but it involves everyone is Rosemary as well, including Rush and Blaire. I'm so happy that they have Nate with them now. Rush has changed so much since he met Blaire. And reading Take A Chance has made me realize how wise he has become as a person and a father.

“If you think she could be the one then it’s time you take a chance. If I lost all that I have tomorrow, I wouldn’t regret one single minute. Ever. They’re what makes my life worth it.”

Nan is still a bitch and self-centered as always. There is no doubt about it. Although I hate Nan just like everyone hates her, but I’m quite curious about what she was thinking all the time. I hope Abbi could write her side story so we will know her feelings as well, that kid must be so lonely and she is channeling it in the wrong way. That’s why no one can stand her. I actually feel pity for her.

Harlow and Nan are half sisters. Nan loathes Harlow to death for being the daughter that their father cherish and care. Whereas Harlow tries so hard to avoid Nan in order to keep peace around. I quite like the character of Harlow because she likes to read books just like me and Harlow seems to be so calm and shy. But to my surprise, as time goes by her character has developed into a lot more confident. It's very interesting to read though.

Good thing is this story isn't predictable at all. Everyone has flaws including the guy I thought was perfect, Grant. In three words I can sum up everything : nobody is perfect

2 stars for Rush
1 star for Harlow
- 1 star for Grant, sorry buddy
1 star for Abbi.
Total is 3 stars

Needing Her (From Ashes #1.5) - Molly McAdams

Title : Needing Her
Series : From Ashes
Author : Molly McAdams
Synopsis : Needing Her
Review :

This is gonna be a very short review. I've ever read one of Molly's books Taking Chances and was left quite like the book. So I felt so much enthusiastic to read another book of hers. Then I found Needing Her. I should have known that this book is a novella and should've read From Ashes (book #1) first. Well, to be honest, I'm not a fan of Needing Her, not sure about From Ashes though.

Maci Price finds herself so difficult to get into a real relationship while she lives among her four insanely protective brothers. Unfortunately, she might have fallen for her annoying yet charming neighbor Connor Green, who is known as a detective and her brothers' best friend as well. Problems are Maci's brothers would never allow her to date him and Connor is too afraid to love her because of his dark past.

"We drive each other crazy."
"I like our kind of crazy."
"We're always fighting."
"As long as it's you I'm fighting with."

The heroine cursed too much my ears hurt. I get that she was raised among protective brothers who cursed a lot but that doesn't necessarily means she should use the same language as they are. The storyline was okay. But the problem is I couldn't connect with any of the characters. None of them were catching my attention, neither the main characters nor the supporting characters. Good thing is I didn't do skimming, I actually read it.

"If you wanna change, then change. But do it because it's what you want for you and your life, not because other people have made you feel like you need to."

Now or Never - A.J. Bennett

Title : Now or Never
Author : A.J. Bennett
Publication Date : June 19th, 2013
Synopsis : Now or Never (taken from Goodreads)
Review :
Twin sisters Grayson and Luna were born seconds apart but they have different personalities. Luna is always more outgoing, and Grayson is the shy one. Things changed when Grayson met her boyfriend Josh. She thinks she has met the one. Because they have lived together and getting into deep relationship than ever. But is it love when your boyfriend is so jealous of other guys he decided to hit you? He can't bear to see you talking with another guy, he gave bruises on your hand? is it love? if it's love then I don't want to fall in love.

It takes a long time for her to finally realize that it's not love. It's the anxiety that she feels, the feeling of being verbally and physically abused by the one you love and trust, IT IS NOT LOVE. I REPEAT, IT IS NOT LOVE.

Grown up as the shy one doesn't make her truly vulnerable, Grayson choose to run away, make her own way to cherish her life to the fullest. She moved back to her mother's house but then she met another trouble, a guy she met at Starbucks, Derrick. Maybe, a fresh start with a new guy isn't so bad at all. But what if he just want to be her friend with benefits?

Note to myself :
1. No matter how handsome and sexy your boyfriend is, if he attacks or hits you for whatever the reasons are, LEAVE HIM NOW. Be with someone who adores you, not the one who hit you.
2. Don't get involved with anything that you can't handle.
3. Family comes first.

I like the concept that the author used. But I think it could be better at some parts. It isn't the path that I would want to walk in, but sometimes life can take you to places or people that give you either a blessing or a lesson.
"You're only young once Grace. Learn to enjoy it before it passes you by and you're my age." - Grayson's Mom

Time never goes back. Unless you have time machine which you don't, because it only exists in fiction and fantasy novels, it will never give you back your past. So enjoy what you do and what you have now, be happy about it, so you will have good memories when you recall it.

Right There With You #1 - R.J.Sable

Title : Right There With You #1
Series : With You
Author : R.J.Sable
Published on July 2nd 2013
Review :

Short review :
like the synopsis, pissed at the story.

Full review :
To be honest, I am half pissed and half-relieved on this story. At some point. I just want to kick all Jamie's brothers' asses, without exception. I was so excited reading the synopsis firstly, but when I read the whole story, I'm quite disappointed. I was expecting something else, something more sweet and lovely but it's far from my expectation.

Raised by her brothers, Jamie-Lea isn't a talkative person. She does everything based on what her brothers ordered her to do. Not following the orders mean she's ready to fell the pain. Jamie-Lea is a very kind girl who loves and respect her brothers the most so she'd rather feel pain than have to disappoint them.

me as reader : she's so dumb!
me after put myself on Jamie's shoes : I don't know what exactly I would do if I were her. Run away maybe? or just speak out my mind to the oldest, Ian. Easier said than done, of course. But I wish Jamie could be more confident and have a faith on herself.

Jamie Lea is basically run away from her brothers by moving out from their house. Living with six brothers without ever feeling the affection from her mother since baby makes her become so vulnerable. Her brothers love her, want the best for her but never ask for what she likes or what she doesn't like. They basically just decide anything based on what they think is the best for her. In other words, she got no vote for herself and even though she's eighteen, she is a baby on her brothers' eyes.

In my opinion, all her brothers are way too overprotective and I really don't get it. Her brothers like to order her around as though she is their maid, or treat her like she is an invalid. Jamie called his brother with "sir" as if they were in military or something, and I was like what the hell? I am surprise they even let her go to uni and left home.

Jamie Lea is abused and bullied by her brother(s)? and her brother's friend. Reading her story makes me mad and upset. The feeling is real and I really want to do something for her. I'm thankful for the day Jamie met Jason and fell in love. Jason has cherished and supported her every time she feels down and he is the right man for her.

Some Q & A :
Brother that I want to KICK the most is Jake.
Brother that I want to HURT is Matt.
Brothers that I like even just a bit are the twins
Brother that give me good impression is Craig.
Brother who doesn't leave a good memory is Karl.
A person that is not better than animal is Duff
A person that I want to hug is Adam.
A person that I want to thank for everything is Jason.

Rating : 2/5
PS : not recommended for readers under 21.

Point of Retreat - Collen Hoover

Title : Point of Retreat
Author : Colleen Hoover
Series : Slammed
Publisher : CreateSpace
Published on February 25th, 2012
Review :

Short review :
totally unexpected, love the poems, Julia's stars made me cry, and it's okay to cry, even for men.

Full review :
Point of retreat is the second book of Slammed series. Unlike the first book in which Will was in dilemma whether to date Lake or not since they were teacher and student back then, this time they are officially together.

"This girl is the rest of my life." I just love Will. Point of Retreat is based on Will's POV so reading through his mind gives me a perfect example of what a man could possibly thinking about his girlfriend. Being in Will or Lake's positions will never be easy. Both of them had to lose their parents at such young ages, and like it or not, the first priorities aren't to reach their dreams anymore, but to replace their parents' positions to raise and protect their brothers.

Things go quite smoothly between Lake and Will. They're in love and supporting each other. Kel and Caulder are doing fine as well as Eddie and Gavin. But when they decided to go to the higher level of their relationship, Will's ex Vaughn showed up. Will Lake be just fine with that? and does Will still love her after what she had done to him in the past?
"If I left my head out of it and just followed my heart, I'd marry her today."
There are new characters, Sherry and Kiersten. They are mom and daughter who just moved in to Will's neighborhood. I love Kiersten truthfully. At first she was a bit annoying but she is so mature at her young age in comparison to Kel and Caulder, so I forgave her and started to like her instead. Not to mention that she's so brave for speaking out against those who bullied her.

"Sometimes things happen in life that you didn't plan for. All you can do now is suck it up and start mapping out a new plan" , here it comes from the thirteen years old girl, Kiersten.

Another quote that I love is from Will grandmother's. It's actually an advice, so you guys better follow it :
A guy can tell a girl he's in love with her until he's blue in the face. Words don't mean anything to a woman when her head's full of doubt. You have to show her."

Is that ring the bell for you guys? When you love someone, instead of just telling them how much you love them, you need to show, express, and make sure they know it.

Last but not least, let me share to you one of my favorite poems,,,

If I were a carpenter, I would build you a window to my soul.
But I would leave that window shut and locked,
so that every time you tried to look trough it,
all you would see is your own reflection.
You would see that my soul
is a reflection of you. . .

Never Too Far #2 - Abbi Glines

Title : Never Too Far #2
Author : Abbi Glines
Series : Too Far Series
Synopsis :
He had held a secret that destroyed her world. Everything she had known was no longer true. Blaire couldn’t stop loving him but she knew she could never forgive him. Now, she was back home and learning to live again. Moving on with life… until something happened to send her world spinning once again. What do you do when the one person you can never trust again is the one that you need to trust so desperately? You lie, hide, avoid, and pray that your sins never find you out. 62,776 word count

Review :

Dear Blaire, could you please just forget about Rush and start noticing the other guy, Woods which is ten thousand times better than him?
Well, if I were Blaire, I'd definitely choose Woods over Rush. No one will get hurt and there will be less drama. But I'm not Blaire, and I'm not pregnant with Rush's baby. So there you go Blaire. There's isn't much choice for you to choose and your ex boyfriend Cain is still a boy while I'm sure you don't need to take care of another people because you barely can't take care of yourself now.
"No. One. Comes. Before. You." - Rush
It's a statement that can make you fly up high but can also hurt you so much. The word isn't meant to be said after all, it's meant to be proved. There are too many misunderstanding between Rush and Blaire, and when one of them can't take it and decide to leave (Book1), I felt like screaming "Get your ass back here and solve the damn problem!!!"
"Listen to me, Blaire. If you try to go anywhere I will chase you down. I will become your shadow. I won't let you out of sight because I can't live without you. I made so many mistakes with you I don't even want to try and count them but I am going to start making things right from here on out. I swear to you that this won't happen again. I know now that this is where I'm supposed to be. No more lies. Just us."
Each character has a sad story. It begins from Abe, Blaire's father who fled from his family when they needed him the most. Rebecca, Blaire's mother who was sick then died in vain. Blaire who has nobody to lean on and is forced to live independently when she is supposed to have support from his father. But he never acted like one, and when she knew about her parents' past now, she couldn't live the same way as she did in the past few months with Rush. She thinks she can live by her own, but then she finds out that she is pregnant.

Nan, a bad childhood and being too much spoiled makes her what she is now. I couldn't blame her but what comes from her mouth for the entire time is all about her needs to be the first priority. Nan really needs to grow up and get a hold of herself.

Rush, I said at my review on the first book that I kinda hate him at the beginning but I love him eventually. Rush never loved someone before. Loving Blaire and having a thought that he could lose her any minute is new to his life. Seeing him had to choose Nan or Blaire isn't something that I like to read. No matter how I hate Nan, it's his sister and his lover after all. He is too hard on himself and I really need to give him a credit for trying the best he can to protect Blaire and the baby. He deserves a second chance because all people need that. But still, my fist want to have a taste on his face for at least once =D
"You're my world. I want everyone to know. I don't know how to date so I never even thought of taking you on date. But I can promise you right now; I will be taking you on so many damn dates that there won't be a person in this town that doesn't know I worship the ground you walk on. Forgive me for being an idiot."
Rush may be the handsomest or richest guy whatsoever, but he isn't my favorite guy. I rooted for Woods and I still do. And I'm so freakin' happy and excited to know that Abbi Glines writes him his own story for the next book. He deserves that much. It's soon to be published on April 22nd this year. Fallen Too Far - Abbi Glines

Title : Fallen Too Far

Date Read : January 7, 2012
Synopsis :
To want what you’re not supposed to have… She is only nineteen. She is his new stepfather’s daughter. She is still naïve and innocent due to spending the last three years taking care of her sick mother. But for twenty-four year old Rush Finlay, she is the only thing that has ever been off limits. His famous father’s guilt money, his mother’s desperation to win his love, and his charm are the three reasons he has never been told no. She isn’t prepared for the lifestyle change and she knows she’ll never fit into this world. She knows he is anything but good for her and that he’ll never be faithful to anyone. He is jaded and has secrets Blaire knows she may never uncover but even knowing all of that…

Review :
I like this book enough. Blaire has surprised me since the beginning from the moment she carried the gun and pointed to a stranger. She knows how to handle a gun better than most men for sure. Her mother had been sick for three years and has died now, her twin sister Valerie died in a car accident which involved his father, and his father has run away from their life and left her alone to take care of her sick mother until she passed away. Even after her mother has passed away, she has to pay the hospital bill by selling their one and only house. So, Blaire has nothing and nobody now.

Although it kills her pride, she tried to contact his father to see if he could give her a place to stay for a month until she get a job, make enough money then set off to rent an apartment. Her father then gave her an address which lead her to Rush. By the time she reached the house of his father or what she is told is his, she met his stepbrother Rush for the first time. Rush is a dangerous man yet breathtakingly handsome. Most women want him but Rush isn't the type of guy who dating girls, he is F-ing them. Blaire knows Rush is dangerous, but she needs a place to stay. She runs out of gas and have only a little money left in her purse. She has nothing left.

My first impression of Rush isn't good. Although I kinda hate him at first, but he successfully captured my heart at last. He also reminds me of the famous male fictional character Christian Grey. They have many things in common which one of it is they like and want to rule everything, as the way Rush told ordered Blaire to eat and he doesn't want to hear No, etc. Besides, Rush also seems to find the F word amusing. There are several things that lead me to the thought of how similar Rush and Christian are. Not that they are bad though :)

You don't have to love me. Just don't leave me.

I take pity on Blaire for what she had been through for the past years. It won't be easy to anyone, but at least when others have receive supports from family or relatives, Blaire has nobody to talk to, nobody cares enough to help her until she met Rush.

Everyone always said that love was enough. It wasn't. Not when your soul was shattered.
