To All the Boys I've Loved Before #1 - Jenny Han

Title : To All the Boys I've Loved Before

Series : To All boys I've Loved Before
Author : Jenny Han
Date of Publication : April 15th 2014
Synopsis : To All the Boys I've Loved Before
Review :
"When I write, I hold nothing back. I write like he'll never read it. Because he never will. Every secret thought, every careful observation, everything I've saved up inside me, I put it all in the letter. When I'm done, I seal it, I address it, and then I put it in my teal hatbox."
If love is like a possession, maybe my letters are like my exorcisms. My letters set me free. Or at least they're supposed to.

Lara Jean wrote 5 love letters that she meant to keep it for herself. When she writes it, it means she doesn't in love anymore. She wrote and addressed it, but never meant to send it out. However, one day the boy she once loved was holding the letter and asked if it was from her. The letters have been sent out unintentionally. Lara Jean finds herself confronted with the boys from the past, namely Peter, the popular guy in school and Josh, her neighbor and her sister's ex-boyfriend as well.

She still has feelings for Josh and after he finds out, she needs to find a good cover to save her from embarrassment. To make his ex-girlfriend jealous, Peter offers a fake contract. But as the time goes by, they might have taken it too personally.

Honestly, I think at some point Lara Jean is still immature. But if we go through her life and put ourselves in her shoes, then we might realize she has tried her best at her young age. Growing up without her mother means she needs to figure out everything by her own self. Not to mention she has to take care of her little sister Kitty since Margot the oldest one has left home to study aboard. She has no confidence in what she was doing, but the girl was trying and learning. That's more important for me.

"This is our life; there's no use is asking what if. No one could ever give you the answers."
"Love is scary: it changes; it can go away. That's part of the risk. I don't want to be scared anymore. I want to be brave."

Kitty and Lara Jean always quarrel a lot in the house. If I could relate it to myself, they were just exactly like me and my sister. We always have different opinions and don't get along so well. Sometimes she can be so annoying and we would stop talking for few days or even months. [I don't know if it happens with you and your sisters too]. We may be argue and fight a lot, but I love her with all my heart. When she was sick, I was worried like an old mom. I even worried about her love life eventhough I'm the youngest in the house and I know she can do just fine.

This story follows Lara Jean as she struggles with her relationship with her sisters, her feelings toward her fake boyfriend Peter Kavinsky, and Josh, the boy her sister used to date. My favorite character is Peter. Although he is so full of himself, but he is so adorable. And Peter brings more joy and laughter to Lara Jean's family.

To me, this book is fresh and sweet.  I had the urge to finish this book as soon as possible but since I had to work so it took me a week to finish it. I enjoyed Jenny Han's writing. The fact that I couldn't even finish her previous work The Summer I turned Pretty made me skeptical to read this one. But since the cover is pretty and the synopsis is quite convincing, I knew I should give it a try. Besides, I love reading every single love letters that she wrote.

"Actually, you're really a lot like my granny." Peter says,"You hate cussing. You like to bake. You stay at home on Friday nights. Wow, I'm dating my granny."

Wonder - R.J. Palacio

Title : Wonder
Author : R.J Palacio
Date of Publisher : January 3rd 2013
Publisher : Corgi Childrens
Synopsis : Wonder - R.J Palacio
Review :
"You can't blend in when you were born to stand out."
August Pullman (Auggie) is a ten year old boy with severe facial abnormalities. He was home-schooled back then but now it is the time when he is finally going to face the world. Auggie is going to school. And it means everyone will see him, most probably will judge him, bully him etc.

We can't choose the way we were born, but we can always choose the way we live. Is it Auggie's fault to be born like that? or is it his parents' fault? I always try to think positively that God gives us a test and a key to solve it at the same time. All we have to do is focus, don't complain all the time and try to get through it.

"Why do I have to be so ugly, Mommy?" I whispered
"No, baby, you're not..."
"I know I am." pg 60

My heart hurt when I read it. He is just a kid. Kids his age are supposed to enjoy their childhood, hangout with friends, and even have a study group. But everyone choose to avoid him, as if he is invisible at class, and even make bad jokes about him.

"He's just a kid. The weirdest-looking kid I've ever seen, yes. But just a kid." - 119

Through this book, I realized that people can be so mean sometimes. Our words can be more painful than any weapons. It can be a good thing as well, but only if we know how to use it in a proper way. I really like the quote that saying, before you say something, think, is it true? is it kind? is it necessary?

"There are always going to be jerks in the world, Auggie. But I really believe, and Daddy really believes, that there are more good people on this earth than bad people, and the good people watch out for each other and take care of each other. Just like Jack was there for you. And Amos. And those other kids." - 279

It takes more than courage to be able accept the reality. It needs passion, unstoppable love, and kindness. Bless Auggie's family and to those who are willing to accept Auggie for whoever and whatever he is. We always have something to be grateful about even at our lowest point. You know, like Auggie. Although he was born with severe facial abnormalities. but he have all things that every kids in the world would wish to have in their families such as love, warmness and kindness.

"You have to go back to school. Everyone hates school sometimes. I hate school sometimes. I hate my friends sometimes. That's just life, Auggie. You want to be treated normally, right? This is normal! We all have to go to school sometimes despite the fact that we have bad days, okay?" - 115

Auggie had gone through mostly every worst thing that you could think about surgeries. Can all children do and bear that? Nope. First time is always the hardest. But remember that the more you practice, the better you will be. Going to school was so freakin hard to Auggie at the first time. School to him means he's practically facing the world. Maybe it's like that you were put into a zoo where all wild animals were standing in front of you with their sharp teeth wide open. His coming to school didn't go so well. Kids were freaked out. Most of them were terrified with his look, but Jack and Summer stood up for him. He had accepted rejection all the time. But through this situation, he is able to see who is his best friends, and who is fake.

"I miss seeing you face, Augie. I know you don't always love it, but you have to understand. . .  I love it. I love this face of yours, Auggie, completely and passionately. And it kind of broke my heart that you were always covering it up." 291 - (Auggie's Daddy)

Wonder is a WONDERful book that I've read this year (last year) I just complete writing the review now ;__; Wonder doesn't simply teach you about life. It's more than that. It's about morality, love, friendship, toughness, and passion. There is always two sides of story and I really like how the author wrote each story through every head of the character. I hope more people will read this book and share it to others.

"But the best way to measure how much you've grown isn't by inches or the number of laps you can now run around the track , or even your grade point average - though those things are important, to be sure. It's what you've done with your time, how you've chosen to spend your days, and whom you touched this year. That, to me, is the greatest measure of success." - 299

Hopeless (Hopeless #1) - Colleen Hoover

Title : Hopeless
Series : Hopeless series
Author : Colleen Hoover
Publication Date : December 19th 2012
Synopsis : Hopeless (taken from Goodreads)
Review :

Sky's life is a complete mess.
I've come to the point that I don't even know how to start writing the review because her past and present's life is so complicated. Not only Sky's but her mother's, Holder's and everyone's. As a teenager, making friends with lots of people will give you benefits to shine. But for some people who only make friends to one or two persons, most of them are usually get bullied, verbally attacked, etc. Sky is used to be home-schooled and now she get the chance to study at public school. But things don't work out really well for her. Being Six's best friend give her a bad reputation but she doesn't care at all. Only a few know and understand her while the others are busy judging what they thought they know.

"You have to let it go. You can hold on to the hate and the love and even the bitterness, but you have to let go of the blame. The blame is what's tearing you down, babe."

This story isn't simply just tell us about love between two young people. It is much more than that. It has deep meaning and involves every themes that we could think about such as bullying, friendship, truth and lies, rape, etc. I think the author has done a very good job. I'd never think about this plot and the mystery isn't very easy to guess. Since the beginning, the author has made us curious about who is the guy Sky met at the grocery store? , why Sky's mother Karen won't allow her to have phone and using internet?, etc.

I really love the chemistry between Sky and Holder that have developed since their first meeting. Although I can guarantee that a man like Holder is one in a million and maybe only exist in romance novels, but I really like how he loves Sky so much and would do everything to win her heart. Same goes to Sky who kind of have a bad thought of him at first but then fall in love with him for all that he has done for her.
"Because I want your first kiss to be the best first kiss in the history of first kisses."
"Fuck all the firsts, Sky. The only thing that matters to me with you are the forevers."

Points that I get :
1. When a man likes you, he will make an effort to get to know you better.
2. If he likes you enough, your differences won't matter to him.
3. Dimples can be so intriguing. You will never know until you meet the one.

You're in love when :
1. You have butterflies in your stomach whenever you met him.
2. You spent so many times just to pick clothes to wear before you meet him. Normally it only takes 5 - 10 min to dress up but now it takes much longer to decide what to wear.
3. You can't stop wondering what he/she is probably thinking of you.

About the friendship between Six and Sky and Sky with Breckin, tell you what? At first I'm so jealous of Sky for having friends like them. Not only because they are incredibly awesome friends who support you in every conditions, but also because they're giving e-reader and a phone to Sky! Like it's a normal present to give to your bestie. Some parts in this novel are too good to be true like Holder, and best friends like Six and Breckin.

I live you :*

Hafalan Shalat Delisa - Tere Liye

Judul : Hafalan Shalat Delisa
Penulis : Tere Liye
Penerbit : Republika Penerbit
Tahun : 2007
Tebal : 248hal
ISBN : 9793210605
Review :

"A-b-i... A-b-i... Kaki... Kaki Delisa dipotong,Bi!" Delisa menyeringai.
Abi mengeluh.
"Gigi... Gigi Delisa lepas dua,Bi!" Delisa membuka mulutnya, nyengir.
Abi mengeluh semakin dalam.
"Siku... Siku Delisa dibungkus,Bi!" Delisa menunjukkan lengan kanannya.

See? Delisa memang terkenal!

Pretty Face by Mary Hogan

Title : Pretty Face
Author : Mary Hogan
Publisher : HarperTeen
Edition language : English
Review :
Life is good when you can eat whatever you want to without worrying about gaining weight. But Hayley isn't the lucky girl who earned that trust from God. She loves to eat and have no self-control of herself when it comes to foods. It makes her easily gain weight and her mom is stressed out because she used to have the body like her daughter have now. Then she bought a special scale for Hayley just to remind her about her weight.

Hayley has a pretty face that makes people like her. But never love or any thing more intimate than that. However, her best friend Jackie is the opposite of her. Jackie has a perfect body and never gain weight no matter how much she eat everyday. Hayley has a crush on Drew, her friend at school. But she has no confidence at all when Drew asked her to go swimming at beach. What should Hayley do? Pretend that she can't swim instead of telling him the truth that she is ashamed of her body and she has no intention of showing it to Drew by wearing a bikini?

What will you do if your crush tell you that he might be in love with your bestfriend instead of you?
My advice is Go fishing. Find someone else. Because :
1. The feeling isn't mutual. So what is the point to keep the feeling?
Besides,
2. Your friendship with your best friend is way more important fighting over a man.

Hayley decided to spend her summer in Italy, the place where her mother's bestfriend lived with her family. Everything is different there. When Hayley could barely feel the warmth in her own country, she finds it so marvelous staying in the house looks like a castle and having a home rules. She promised herself to have a new life in Italy, begin from do the walking instead of riding or driving. What she got is a satisfaction because her body seems to follow the rhythm.

With all that hard works, Hayley began to feel free and not depressed. But one simple thing can ruin the whole thing. Therefore, we need a commitment in doing most of things and support from families.
"Tomorrow is a new beginning. Embrace the experience. Look forward, not behind."
I did the reading on my way from Penang to KL on the bus. I immediately liked the book because the idea was very unique and Hayley is so funny. But I'm a bit dissapointed in the end of the story. I feel like there is one important piece that lost in this story and without it the story is incomplete. However, I still enjoyed the reading.

Out of Town

Dear my sweetest blog,

I'm going aboard tomorrow morning with my family. Means I won't have a time to update any review from books I read. And besides, I haven't read any books yet in this January 2012. Compare to 2011-reading challenged which resulted 145 books I read, this time I don't want to be greedy anymore, so I challenged myself to only read 50 books this year.  I am not sure I will read so many books this year, since this is my last year at college and I'm 100% certain that I will be so busy doing my thesis.

I bought some books a few days ago, but I will upload it when I return from my trip. And hope I can visit Popular or Kinokuniya so I can buy some books there. ^v^

I'm gonna miss many thing for sure, but I'll try to catch up later on. I will be off from 4th to 9th Jan, but maybe I'll still on from my twitter or facebook, so see you there.

#141 Epic Fail - Claire LaZebnik

Title : Epic Fail
Author : Claire LaZebnik
Publisher : HarperTeen
Total Pages : 288pages
edition language : english
Review :
New school ,new teachers, and new friends. Elise and her sisters, Juliana, Layla, and Kaitlyn have to blend in with all of them. Being a new student make you a bit worry if you will get the right person to be your friend or not. Some are just being nice, some are really care, and the rests don't even put an attention.
and you will be more worried if your mother is a new principal there, and your dad is a teacher there as well.

Elise doesn't feel ashamed of them. No, she doesn't at all. What she really worried about is what if when people begin to notice it, they don't want to be friends anymore with her. I can tell that the worries is unreasonable. If your friends can't accept for who you are then it is clear that they don't deserve to be your friends. As simple as that.

To know that your new school is full of actress and actors' sons and daughters make you look small. Elise feels like want to hide forever when Derek, the movie stars' son sit at the same table with her at lunch time.
Derek is a good-looking and well-educated guy. And he is friends with Chase, Juliana's new crush.
Born as the son of movie stars makes you live a different life from most children. All people want to be friends with Derek, talk with him, and act like they had known Derek for a long time, and it was very irritating for him.

Elise is the first person who doesn't look him in that way. But their relationship is a bit rocky in the beginning because of some arguments. But what kind of relationship that has no arguments at all? =D that's a very sweet of them.

I love how Elise defend her parents when her friends mock them, and even when Derek accidentally share a bad thought of her mom, she doesn't hesitate to mad at him. Means the girl has a self-control of herself, not like the other girls who will pretend not to hear it, or the worse is participate in the conversation just to get their attention. What a fool.

I have two persons that are so obnoxious and definitely need a slap in the butt and face in this book. You will know soon after you read the first chapter. It isn't hard to notice, though.

Some people say this is a modern pride and prejudice, but poor me, I haven't read pride and prejudice yet T_T the fact that i'm majoring english literature doesn't make me all of a sudden read the book. Hope I'll find some time to read it. Note to myself : I need to read more about literature books. Not that I don't own it, but I haven't found the courage.

Last but not least, i love this book and it's definitely worth to read.

My bestfriend gave a simple yet meaningful Christmas gift, you love me, God.

I had a fabulous Christmas days buying book, and watching cinema, thanks to God.

I feel so blessed that I am surrounded by wonderful family and awesome friends.
I couldn't be more thankful for that.
If Jesus loves me, He is showing it everyday.
If my parents love me, I know it for sure.
If you my friends love me, I wanna say nothing but thank you, I heart you.

Special for my best friend, Meggy Chitra.
I feel grateful to have such a friend like you
We don't have to be born as a sibling,
but the connection between me and you,
is thicker than blood.

I appreciate everything that you wrote,
I said 'amen' to every single notes,
thank you for your concern,
all I wish for you is nothing.
But the best.

Love you.

#139 Oppa & I

Judul : Oppa & I
Penulis : Orizuka & Lia Indra Adriana
Penerbit : Penerbit Haru
Tebal Buku : 156hal
Terbit : Desember 2011
ISBN : 978-602-98325-3-2
Review :

Tapi kenapa sekarang semuanya berubah???

Thanks to Bless! :*
Walau belum pernah membaca buku karangan Lia Indra Adriana, tapi saya cukup yakin buku-bukunya juga sama menariknya dengan Oppa & I. Jadi pengen ngoleksi! :)
